Ignas Krunglevicius: Interrogation

07 March 2015 - 12 July 2015

Te Tuhi is proud to present Interrogation by Ignas Krunglevičius, a highlight of the 19th Biennale of Sydney (2014) and recently acquired for the permanent collection of the Art Gallery of South Australia.

This enthralling dual-channel video installation delves into the psychology of police interrogation through an abstract assault of sound, text and colour. The work borrows an excerpt from the US police transcript of an interview between detective Robert John and murder suspect Mary Kovic (a pseudonym), who allegedly killed her husband in 2004. Interrogation is an immersive experience that deconstructs the politics of power invested in language and explores the ability to coerce compliance through the craft of speech.

Ignas Krunglevičius is a Lithuanian artist and composer currently based in Oslo. He has exhibited extensively throughout Europe and presented work at numerous festivals, including the 14th Venice Architecture Biennale in 2014; Contemporary Art Museum, Krakow (2014); SOFT CITY Performance Festival, Kunstnernes Hus, Oslo (2014); ULTIMA 12 Contemporary music festival, Oslo (2013). In 2010 he was nominated for the Nam June Paik award; he was the recipient of the 2009 Sparebankstiftelsen DnB NOR Stipendutstilling Art Prize.
