“Offerings to the forces of nature. To the sky, the sun, the stars. To the Unseen. To the past. And to the future”
London-based New Zealand artist Rachel Walters creates the latest billboard project in association with Te Tuhi's Matariki Festival. In this work, Walters transforms tired bric-à-brac into ambiguous shrine-like offerings. These repurposed offerings incorporate a reminder of the past and suggest a sense of longing for the future - a sentiment in keeping with the tradition of Matariki.
