Waking up early one golden autumn morning I jumped on my bike and cycled from Edinburgh to Dundee to visit a few exhibitions. I’ve been wanting to combine cycle travel and art experiences for a while and on this day the weather and availability made this possible. I find taking slow travel gives the mind time to rest and to anticipate new ideas and visual stimulation. On this day I found that it made me more receptive and willing to engage since I was committed and had to put in physical effort to visiting. With slowness time is a factor however. And so, I only had time to visit two exhibitions.

The Ignorant Art School | Sit-in 4 | Outside the Circle at Cooper Gallery (18 October 2024 - 1 February 2025) explored forms of collectivity, resistance and knowledge sharing through intersectional feminist and queer movements (photos 6-10). I got to DCA just before closing to catch Every seed is awakened by Peruvian artist Claudia Martínez who draws on ancestral knowledge from her Andean heritage as well as exploring archival images and propaganda to create constellations of signs and symbols in sculpture, painting and video works (photos 11-15).
