Afterwork: Wall Drawing

By literally deconstructing the Te Tuhi Drawing Wall, the Afterwork collective consider drawing as a spatial dynamic. In response to the high volume of foot traffic that frequent Te Tuhi's foyer entrance, the artists reconstructed the chipboard cladding of the wall as a series of ceiling mounted shelving units that visitors can walk between. By dismantling and reconstructing the Te Tuhi Drawing wall as a new form, the intervention both physically rearranges the given architecture and reveals remnants of past Drawing Wall projects. In considering the community function of Te Tuhi, the shelving was also activated as a form of social sculpture. Visitors attending the exhibition opening were invited to complete the work by stacking their empty beer bottles on the shelves.
