“Through the act of rowing I am interested in moving into the future by maintaining a connection with the past oceanic mobility of indigenous Pacific people.”
Artist Cora-Allan Wickliffe will be sweating it out on a rowing machine to clock up kilometres for her collaborative work Electric Waka. In late 2013, she made an open call to people of Māori and Pacific Island descent to contribute to Electric Waka by rowing a portion of 7,000 km, to match the distance between Hawaii and Aotearoa.
